NL=US GALLERY
ROTTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS

NL=US Gallery

NL=US (“Analysis”) gallery is a gallery and art consultancy that is dedicated to the promotion of emerging and established artists and the advancement of the visual arts in general. NL=US started out as an art consultancy representing Dutch artists in the USA and vice versa, but to better serve their artists the gallery opened its gallery in Rotterdam in February 2014.

NL=US now present artists from all over the world and have a stipend to actively support the artists, such as the biannual stipend ‘Kaleidoscopic Links’ to support a chosen artist to further their oeuvre. The gallery concentrates more on installation and in-situ art, as well as solo- and duo exhibitions to give the public an in-depth view of the abilities and range of the artist(s). NL=US is interested in the relationship between the artists and the media they are working with and the understanding, accomplishment and refining of their skills. Every year NL=US participates in several national and international art fairs.

For VOLTA New York 2022, NL=US brings together three female artists. Ruth Borgenicht uses principles of patterning and weaving to create ceramic chain mail forms made through a series of interlocking rings. Visually stone-like, the pieces appear strong and impenetrable, belying their inherent fragility. Wendy Letven juxtaposes graphic shapes and patterns that are similarly interwoven, forming structures and the syntax of a visual language. Subverting the planar properties of paper and aluminum, her sculptural works that are rooted in drawing. Preta Wolzak creates, through her embroidered works, her vision of a better world: showing outrage to how the world is treated but also hope of what it can become. Patterning plays a role in the work of all three artists, as does a transformative use of materials.
