Jonathan LeVine Projects

Jonathan LeVine Projects is committed to new and cutting-edge art. Our roots go back to 1995 when LeVine's life-long participation in punk and underground music grew into a curatorial experiment with the visual culture that surrounded him. In 2005, he opened Jonathan LeVine Gallery in the Chelsea district of New York City and had great success nurturing the careers of many celebrated artists. In 2017, the gallery relocated to Jersey City with a newfound focus on community and collaboration. The newly named Jonathan LeVine Projects aims to create engaging programs and interesting partnerships beyond the traditional gallery space. With an eye towards honoring and connecting with the history and context of Post War art, Jonathan LeVine Projects explores the terrain of the high/low and everything in between. In 2019, Jonathan LeVine Projects transitioned from a brick-and-mortar gallery to a virtual exhibition platform, spearheading a digital marketplace for fine art.

Kumkum Fernando, Do You Read Me? 113, 2022, Mixed media – Combined wood, Brass detailing, Magnets (for details), UV print, Silkscreen print, Lacquer, 37 x 16 x 6 inches

Kumkum Fernando, a Sri Lankan artist who is currently based in Vietnam. In what will be the first in-person collaboration between Fernando and Jonathan LeVine Projects, our booth introduces the Reborn universe - an ongoing project where the artist re-imagines found materials into contemporary art objects. Equal parts action figures and idols, these sculptures are vibrant deities that evoke a unique spiritualism and mythology. Similar to the ceremonial experience of visiting the Ancient Egyptian or Greek wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, our booth will embody thousands of years of Sri Lankan culture through artworks inspired by ornate temple paintings, masks and objects from indigenous tribes. Each sculpture, which range in height from 53 inches to 26 inches, will stand proudly on a pedestal, allowing visitors to experience every angle of the work and weave between the cultural connections they share.
