VOLTA BASEL | PRESS RELEASE | April 2023

VOLTA Basel returns with a new location: from 12-18 June, the international art fair will show an exclusive selection of contemporary artistic presentations.

Private View Opening: Monday, June 12

Invitation Only: 10AM - 2PM

Public: 2 - 8PM

VOLTA Basel, the international and established satellite fair of Art Basel, returns to the Swiss art metropolis with a new location. With 35 invited galleries, this year the fair has been exclusively curated by hand-selecting each gallery. From 12 to 18 June, VOLTA will create an environment for art collectors to discover the art of now, connect with galleries and grow their collection. This makes the Basel fair the second edition of VOLTA in 2023 - VOLTA New York will take place in May at the Metropolitan Pavilion, in parallel with Frieze.

  •  VOLTA Basel returns to the city in a new location, Klybeck 610.

  • It is the first invite-only VOLTA edition, presenting a curated gallery selection.

  • In keeping with the fair’s ethos "Discover. Connect. Collect.", VOLTA Art Fair

will emphasize the art market’s diversity with a focus on the most recent

    themes, both nationally and internationally.

  • The 2023 Basel edition features galleries from art market capitals such as

New York, London and Basel, Switzerland, an established roster of European galleries, of emerging markets in Seoul, South Korea and underrepresented narratives.

Basel, 23 March 2023: For the first time as an invite-only fair, 35 galleries and artists from around the world will present their work at VOLTA Basel. Their forward-thinking curations will hold a unique, international artistic dialogue. In keeping with the fair’s ethos "DISCOVER. CONNECT. COLLECT.” VOLTA will create an environment to:

    • Discover the art of now, with a focus on the most recent developments and themes internationally and nationally.

    •  Connect with galleries and the art market’s diverse creative output.

    •  Engage experienced and new collectors with growing their collection,

providing a strong supplement to the dialogues presented by Art Basel.

A special highlight is the new location, Klybeck 610 at Gärtnerstrasse 2. Klybeck 610 is an architectural jewel designed by architects Suter + Suter in 1967 based in the Klybeck district. Formerly known as an industrial area, Klybeck is transforming with VOLTA Basel enhancing the districts creative story. VOLTA Basel is placed in the heart of the city’s international art market, a short 20-minute walk and 5-minute shuttle from Art Basel.

Since 2005, VOLTA Art Fair has supported ambitious international presentations from young and established galleries, providing a platform for exposure alongside Art Basel as well as participation in the art markets’ major cities. VOLTA aims to continue to question, explore, and showcase developments in the art market through a diverse roster of exhibitors.

Among the exhibiting galleries are Selene Art Media from Basel, Switzerland and Fujisawa Japan, Gallery H.A.N., South Korea, Galerie Heike Strelow and Galerie Thomas Fuchs, Germany, Ethan Cohen Gallery, New York and CHARLIE SMITH LONDON, UK.

Additional fair highlights, programming announcements and the list of exhibiting galleries remain forthcoming.

ABOUT VOLTA ART FAIR

VOLTA Art Fair supports galleries in staging ambitious solo and group presentations, refining the experience to its essential elements: the artists and their work. This focus on compelling visual statements by up-and-coming and established artists cultivates a vibrant and approachable environment of discovery for the engaged collector. VOLTA debuted in Basel in 2005 aimed as a platform for ambitious international galleries to participate in the art markets’ major cities. VOLTA’s New York fair followed in 2008, with a focus on solo presentations that offered an alternative to the crowded trade show tradition of New York fair weeks. In autumn 2019, VOLTA was acquired by Ramsay Fairs.

In 2023, VOLTA Art Fairs returns to New York during Frieze Week from May 17 to 21 at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Followed by the fair’s 18th Basel edition, at new location Klybeck 610, Gärtnerstrasse 2 in Basel, June 12 to 18.
