‘Beekeeper with smoker by Ashley Norwood Cooper,Oil on panel

Stand B6

ZINC contemporary is pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by NYC based artist Ashley Norwood Cooper for the second time at VOLTA NYC. In 2020 Cooper’s works received the attention of Jillian Steinhauer of the NY Times with this description: “I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one figurative painter here: Ashley Norwood Cooper, with ZINC contemporary. In high-key color, Ms. Cooper renders intimate scenes of women who seem immersed in their interior lives and creativity (always with cats at hand). Tender and funny, the works stopped me in my tracks.” Cooper’s large-scale imaginative oil paintings are thick with paint and meaning. Through the heroic lens of the ordinary, Cooper sheds light on the schizophrenic role of the artist-mother-wife-teacher and all that it encompasses, while referencing Virgil, poetry, climate change and menopause. The paintings presented have just come from Cooper’s recent solo exhibition
entitled SWARM at the Fenimore Museum. ZINC is a contemporary art gallery with a reputation for curating compelling
exhibitions, championing highly talented female artists, and collaborating with
collectors to cultivate an aspect of curiosity and wonder within their collection.
