Spence Gallery has built a reputation for curation of artwork from a roster of artists known for innovation, challenge, and diversity. In 2005, founder Joan Spence got inspired to establish an art gallery where inclusion was encouraged. The recruitment of the first set of artists was very deliberate; with the intent of ensuring diversity, the gallery highlighted works from artists with a Caribbean, Latin and African heritage. Spence has championed and journeyed with most of the artists since the early days of the gallery. With participation in over 50 art fairs to provide the artists exposure to an
international audience. Spence Gallery serves as a launching pad for emerging and mid-career artists whose
diverse biographies and artworks captivate the attention of local and international audiences. Marcelo Suaznabar has been with Spence Gallery since its inception and has
been featured in solo shows, group shows and over 20 international art fairs.
