MEET THE ARTISTS: Recontextualizing sculpture at VOLTA
Rewriting the context of a work of art is a complex process, and one the artists presented at VOLTA New York and Basel are primed to undertake this year. The extra dimension to sculpture as a genre lends itself to recontextualization, with a wider array of ways to hang, display and curate meaning that new references can be heightened and exaggerated.

VOLTA VISITS | HENDRIK ZIMMER | Frankfurt, Germany
Zimmer studied at Academy of Fine Arts Städelschule, continuing his studies to graduate as a Masters student of Tobias Rehberger. With this foundation in sculpting, Zimmer quickly turned towards abstract painting by creating collages and décollages stating that his work “emerge as paintings through sculpture.”

CAM Galeria is nestled between the rich cultural and commercial worlds in the vibrant Polanco district of Mexico City. Founded in 2017 by Diego García, Sofía Creel and Daniela Carrasco, the three were united in promoting contemporary art that reflects Mexico’s rich cultural history and stage it to the international market.
