New York | January 16, 2024 — VOLTA Art Fair today announced a set of new changes for the 2024 edition of the New York show. Moving to the fall art fair season, the 16th edition of VOLTA New York will take place from Wednesday, September 4 to Sunday, September 8, in a new venue, Chelsea Industrial, situated in the city’s dynamic Chelsea gallery district. Celebrating the new dates and location, VOLTA will also see newly appointed Advisory Board Members – gallerists Ethan Cohen (Ethan Cohen Gallery), Maryana Kaliner (FORMah Gallery), curator Nikki Nita Ramirez and contemporary artists Ola and Maya Rondiak – join the prestigious line-up to champion the fair and strengthen its artistic community in the city.

As the first New York edition to take place under the helm of Artistic Director Lee Cavaliere, who was appointed in July 2023, the strategic move to the fall art fair season not only ushers VOLTA into a new era but also positions its exhibitors for market success and enables loyal collectors to acquire work showcased in the preceding Basel show scheduled for June 2024.

VOLTA is a pivotal international art fair that takes place in New York and Basel. The fair debuted in Basel in 2005 before expanding to New York in 2008. VOLTA has become an international forum for discovering cutting-edge artwork and rising artistic talent. Post-acquisition by Ramsay Fairs in 2019, the commitment to showcasing pre-eminent talent and supporting ambitious international galleries remains at the core of the fairs in two of the major art market hubs.

New location at Chelsea Industrial

Situated between Chelsea and Hudson Yards, this industrial venue is characterized by its soaring 22,000-square-foot exhibition space and a location central to the city’s arts economy during the September fair week. West Chelsea is the premiere district for the visual arts, boasting over 300 distinguished galleries. Located just a short walk from The Armory Show and Photo Fairs New York at the Javits Center, VOLTA New York’s Chelsea Industrial location places the fair as the optimum forum for collectors to discover new artistic talent.

New Advisory Board Members to support VOLTA New York 2024

VOLTA has appointed new Advisory Board members representing the USA and Europe who will support the fair’s goals and vision for the 2024 edition. This includes increasing influence and outreach within cultural and business communities; championing discovery and excellence in VOLTA’s curation; and forging strategic alliances and relationships at local, national, and international levels to reinforce VOLTA’s legacy as a destination for artistic excellence. New members of the Advisory Board are gallerists Ethan Cohen (Ethan Cohen Gallery), Maryana Kaliner (FORMah Gallery), curator Nikki Nita Ramirez and contemporary artists Ola and Maya Rondiak. See appendix for full bios.

New members will join Advisory Board members representing the MENA region and Europe, including Sheila Arora, William Kaafarani, Pamela Hraoui, and Patrick Petermann.

VOLTA is entering a new chapter. That means showcasing art that speaks from the world we all inhabit. Art is a great unifier and force that brings people together. We’ll present global perspectives from artists at the cutting-edge of their practice, where tradition speaks to contemporaneity - both from our core VOLTA galleries and underrepresented voices from conflict areas, places with less access to the Western art market.

Moving to the fall season better supports our galleries through the year. VOLTA will bring new opportunities for collectors to discover rising talent and with this, a new energy to the September art fair season in New York.
— Lee Cavaliere, Artistic Director of VOLTA:

VOLTA will be hosting a Ukrainian Pavilion, showcasing artists from the country in association with non-profit partner Razom Foundation. Further details on this presentation will be announced in the coming months.
