BEYOND THE MAUVE

Open from September 5, 2023

FORMAH Gallery, 42 Allen St, NY

Featuring MaryKate Maher's innovative collage and cultural creations, this showcase traverses geological and psychic realms. Maher employs diverse mediums like UV prints, resins, and plasters in her totemic sculptures, incorporating photographic prints of vacant space in her collages. These works engage with the interplay between form and space, invoking the Japanese concept of "Ma" that molds physical structure through the absence of negative space.

SEVEN STEPS TO MANHATTAN

Opening September 6th, 2023

Galerie Barbara von Stechow, Feldbergstraße 28 60323 Frankfurt am Main

A New Year To Remember – Tom Christopher, 2023

With tireless fascination, Tom Christopher sketches ever new insights into the exciting urban metropolitan life of New York. His pictures tell stories and anecdotes of individual persons, picked out of the everyday life of the big city citizens and tourists, who seem to fill the buildings and streets to the last corner as a hectic and confusing mass of people. Like short film stills, he sifts out the frequencies, stopping time for a brief moment to allow a closer look at what is happening. The ordinary everyday life of the individual is stylized into a symbol of urban life in the metropolis, with the immediate moment serving as the starting point.

ASAKO TABATA: WASTE OF A CUSHION

September 7 - October 21, 2023

SEIZAN New York
525 W 26TH St, Ground Floor, NY 10001

SEIZAN Gallery New York is pleased to present Waste Of A Cushion, a solo exhibition of artist Asako Tabata. From September 7 through October 21, 2023, over twenty new works of painting and papier-mâché sculpture will fill one of the gallery’s newly renovated exhibition spaces.

Less than two years after her well-received first solo exhibition in New York, Asako Tabata returns with a dynamic new body of work. Her subjects continue to be women, children, and ghostly characters rendered in charged brushwork on otherworldly backgrounds. With whimsical figures and a moody palette Tabata captures psychological extremes and emotion, sanity and insanity.

THE BOTTOM

Opening September 8th, 2023

(AV17)GALLERY, Totorių g. 5, Vilnius

Jurga Barilaite, video performance, Counting Rhyme - Abracadabra, 2014

Reflecting on the political and social tensions in the world in recent years, Jurga Barilaitė presents an exhibition exploring possible survival strategies. The bottom in the exhibition not only symbolises the absolute end, but also becomes a starting point, where the deposited sludge reflects the continuity of life and reminds us of the constant change. The process of decomposition in the sludge and the disappearance of light in the darkest matter inspires the artist to look for a neutral perspective on the negative political changes on a global level. Faced with problems that encompass the whole of humanity, Jurga Barilaitė discovers their solutions in dreams and, with the help of artificial intelligence, constructs an “instruction manual” for the salvation of humanity.

Emily Cheng - Upright

Emily Cheng's work, combining semiotics and visual imagery, portrays and constructs spiritual connections between humanity, nature, and the cosmos, embodying her pursuit of human origins and the essence of the universe. Her artworks are characterized by their simplicity and abstraction, vibrant and luminous colors. Arrangements of points, lines, and various geometric shapes have become her signature, with compositions that exude order through meticulous rationality. Color layouts and variations create a sense of temporal depth and spatial breadth. The artworks pulsate with the dynamism of celestial bodies, revealing a grand serenity. Through the art's use of negative space and color tones, we sense an aura of Eastern aesthetics.

ABOUDIA x PICASSO x PAIK x TRIBAL

Opening September 8th, 2023

Ethan Cohen Gallery

251W 19TH ST, New York 10011

Ethan Cohen Gallery is pleased to present Aboudia x Picasso x Paik x Tribal, a thought-provoking exhibition that explores the profound dialogue between the works of Aboudia, Pablo Picasso, and Nam June Paik, and sheds light on the impact of traditional African art on each artist’s respective practice. This exhibition in many ways is both an acknowledgement and celebration of the artistic power and influence of African art and aesthetics.

Aboudia x Picasso x Paik x Tribal celebrates the convergence of these three visionary artists while underscoring the enduring power of African art. By showcasing their respective artworks alongside the profound influence of African art, the exhibition highlights the universal and transformative qualities of artistic visions that transcend cultural and temporal boundaries.

INSPIRATIONAL DREAMS

Mederic Turay – Colors Above the Sun

Mederic Turay, born in Ivory Coast in 1979, has gained prominence as a contemporary artist. His artistic journey is marked by a fusion of influences from his childhood, upbringing in North American urban culture, and the roots of his African heritage. His passion for art began at an early age, and he has evolved into a multifaceted artist whose work spans paintings and sculptures.

His art showcases vibrant colors and intricate designs that draw viewers in. His creative process is driven by a need to fill the canvas entirely, and this instinctual approach connects his personal experiences with a broader cultural and spiritual context. Mederic's art weaves together his African roots, urban art influences, and a fascination with the invisible world.
